I have exactly the same problem on an IBM Z60m running Edgy
This is my sound card:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family)
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)

Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, I
Problem still exists in 6.10 rc
