Very likely that it is. The update on October 9th may have resolved your
problem. Please update to 2.6.17-10.29, and try to boot without ACPI=off
and see if this error still occurs.

There seems to be quite a general ACPI / Xorg problem with recent Edgy
updates. The ACPI=off kernel boot option at least allowed me to start X
after booting.
