After upgrading to current 11.10 and upgrading BIOS to A12 I again enabled
SpeedStep and there was no more problem for me.
Not sure if the fix was in ubuntu or in BIOS though.
Someone please try just the Ubuntu upgrade first, without upgrading the BIOS.
Latest BIOS can be downloaded from:

I was having the same problem on my Dell Mini 1012 with the 32-bit version of
11.04.
I discovered the Intel Atom N450 in it is actually a 64-bit processor, so I
made a 64-bit 11.04 USB Desktop USB stick
and when I booted from it, the suspend/resume worked properly, so I did a clean

I would like to add my two cents to this. I just upgraded from 10.04
netbook edition to 10.10 netbook and it doesn't want to wake up. The
only thing is to cut the power and restart. It kind of sucks when I
don't think about it.

I am also seeing the same issue as in Comment #2, on a Dell Mini 1018,
Del BIOS v.A02. Have any patches or bugfixes for this issue been
released? This is not new, has been reported many times, and should be
addressed by now I would think

I too can confirm this workaround, but this way the processor will be
always at 100%. Hoping in a better solution...

I just disabled Intel Speedstep in the BIOS and resuming works. (got the
suggestion from bug #578673, linked from #632538 which appears to be a
similar issue). This seems to be OK as a workaround for now, and may
shed some light on the root cause of the issue.

The important detail here is that it was working perfectly in 10.04 and it
fails in 10.10.
Is there a way to downgrade pm-utils or compare the default config files?

I have also tried to set ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=standby in /etc/default/acpi-
support but I don't have noticed any behaviour change.
The description of the parameter is:
# Change the following to "standby" to use ACPI S1 sleep, rather than S3.
# This will save less power, but may work on more machines

I have the same issue on a Dell Mini (1018) with Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) just
installed.
Can we provide some sort of hardware/software configuration or log to help to
diagnose this problem?
