Can you attach the output of lspci. Depending on your hardware (sounds
like it from the ICH5 chipset) this may be a duplicate of 67710

I've a similar issue... when I try to hibernate my system, it says:
pnp: failed to activate device 00:0c
When I try to resume the hibernated system, it says again:
pnp: failed to activate device 00:0c
... the floppy drive LED stays on, and the system doesn't resume and
stays freezed ("black" sc

Also.. the console periodically spits out messages on ext3, block device
errors.. So i assume the sata subsystem has failed to come up.
