The fact that it will either die at ~10 minutes, or continue okay makes
me think it might be a hardware problem - maybe overheating?

I have tell him to send me following logs:

Do the crashes happen if the german guy created a new user and used that
one? this might solve the problem. also, trying to start firefox from
the command line and watch what it says after the crash might help.
