I'd say this is fixed.
I recently decided to re-install 6.06 on my laptop (going back from
6.10).
I found my old magazine (august APC) disc wouldn't work so downloaded
ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso from ubuntu download site.
After re-installing 6.06, firefox worked fine.

What version of FireFox are you using? Im gonna go out on a limb and say
its not crashing you are just getting the popup dialog?

There is no open instance of Firefox showing in the System Monitor.
I have downloaded and installed epiphany and that works fine so there
doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the network settings. I'm using
Bpalogin - downloaded from Ubuntu via Synaptic.
