Tried to make the setup with your command line, it does not work on
kubuntu. Even when I try
sudo env UBIQUITY_DEBUG=1 ubiquity kde-ui 2>/tmp/ubiquity.log
it crashes on starting partitioning dialog (bug i filed earlier) with

Could you please try to reproduce this bug with some more debugging
turned on? From a terminal window (Applications -> Accessories ->
Terminal) after a fresh boot of the CD, type this to start the
installer:
sudo env UBIQUITY_DEBUG=1 ubiquity 2>/tmp/ubiquity.log
If it fails in the same way, ple
lshal output created with dapper because edgy did not write the grub
section after crash...
