Yes, its too difficult to read cpu frequency because of dark color in
dark background.

Ok, I have found this problem in other area's such as firefox add-on's
and it may be necessary to move this bug into the Maverick Ambiance
theme package as the problem seems to be a theme issue and not an applet
issue as I first suspected...

Being forced to use the 'new' Ambiance theme with the light-themes update today
see exactly the same thing
(was previously using the available non beta Ambiance where all is fine
Similar to the blacked out context menu items - impossible to read.

Sure thing! I have attached a screen shot that shows the problem. The
CPU frequency monitor applet that is suffering from the problem is in
the bottom right next to the system monitor applet and the workspace
switcher. You can still see the icon and if you look at it just right,
you can barely see
