Done for USB devices. I haven't touched CD-ROMs because I have a
suspicion that doing so may break some bits of the installer at least in
corner cases, and I don't want to risk that at this point.

For me it was troublesome because per default I could no longer mount
the disk during runtime without doing it as root in the terminal. In my
case it was a firewire drive.
