The following error happens most of time:

No idea, I am not running Ubunutu any longer. I am now on Debian and I
haven't got a problem with firefox.

I am running as user when I am working from that machine itself and as root
when I use a putty session with X output forwarded to my windows machine.

unablet o reproduce this bug. Can you please upgrade to that version and
see if it fixes it for you also? Are you trying to run it as root or as
user?

No, I still get the same response. After I enter the command, the console says:
/usr/lib/firefox:/usr/lib/firefox/plugins:/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins
and then it returns to the prompt.

I've got 1.7.12-1.1ubuntu2 for mozilla-browser here. You don't seem to
have that installed. Please 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install
mozilla-browser' and tell us if that fixes it?

After reading the man pages for dpkg, I realize that the -l option does
exist, it was simply the grep that didn't find anything. Here is the
output:
pn mozilla-browser (no description
available)
pn mozilla-firefox (no description available
I presume that -l actually means -I (for Info). The output is the same for
mozilla-browser, mozilla-firefox and firefox:
dpkg-deb: failed to read archive `mozilla-browser': No such file or directory
dpkg-deb: failed to read archive `mozilla-firefox': No such file or directory
dpkg-deb: failed to r
What ubuntu version are you running? Find this by issuing 'dpkg -l
mozilla-browser|grep ^ii' (without the quotes) at a command prompt. If
that fails, try 'dpkg -l mozilla-firefox|grep ^ii' and post the output
here.
