This is fixed in Natty, but I don't see a burning need to bring this
into the Lucid branch as the build will proceed despite the warnings
that are printed. Does anybody have any objections?

I added a check for the directory, but there is no reason to fall back
to using "C" since the build directory is wiped out before each build,
so there is no "C" directory for non-translated sections. We can pull
this fix into Lucid if needed, right now it's just in our Natty dev
branch, rev 629.
