Has this happened yet? I'm curious to see ..
And if so, how do I enable it. Currently, setting the metacity gconf key
when having libcm installed doesn't seem to do the trick!

The latest 2.17.5 release still lacks libcm/compositor support. The
libcm is universe is still stuck at an old pre-0.1 release. Spiftacity
is stuck at an old 2.13 release.
Can we get this updated, please? The compositor in Metacity is supposed
to be getting pretty stable, and it's disabled enti

metacity needs a newer libcm and that library would require to be
promoted to main for that. Note that spiftacity package from universe is
what you describe, an another package built with the compositor
