I have the exact same problem on a Thinkpad T43. Last message in boot
screen is "configuring X" then blank screen with no blinking cursor.

The last message is "configuring X", but in my case I can't even see a blinking
cursor. The Screen stays totally blank.
But I think it is the same Bug.
