Still affects me, using gnome-volume-control as well as alsamixer. Pulseaudio doesn't fix this because changing the volume of "master" in pulseaudio using keyboard shortcuts or panel applet changes both the volume of pulseaudio master and of alsa master. I am using Jaunty but have experienced this
