I've been running with xscreensaver for a while now and it works
perfectly.
So, it's definitely something to do with gnome-keyring or gnome-
screensaver.

I am experiencing the same issue down to the gnome-keyring status. I am
fairly sure this is not simply just a config problem.

I should also note that I am using an unencrypted keyring. (I used the
have the problem where the unlock screen would just freeze due to trying
to connect to the gnome-keyring manager, but this problem seems to be
different.)
