I am experiencing this same problem. I am trying to install ---> sudo
apt-get install ibm-layer-full and it fails because ibm-layer will not
be installed because usplash is failing to install. I am running ubuntu
10.04 LTS 32 bit.

Ok, so after a bit more documentation I have learned that usplash seems
to be replaced by plymouth in ubuntu 10.04. Normally you shouldn't have
to install usplash, but that doesn't justify those dependency errors,
which should be fixed.

i get the same issues when i try to install usplash on my ubuntu 10.04 32 bit
installation.
it happenned as soon as i upgraded my ubuntu from 9.10 which was previously
9.04.
