I'm having a similar problem for several months, hitting ctrl+c
sometimes shuts down X and sends me back to gdm logon screen, without
any warning...
However, I dug a little bit the problem on my own, and I could notice the
following :

This only happened once. I have concluded the crash was caused by a
group of related Inkscape bugs (start at Inkscape bug #300888) that are
known to cause crashes. I'm addressing them upstream.

This is the first such crash I've had in Lucid, after some weeks of
stable use.
What was different this morning:
1. There were a log of glib/libc updates. I restarted manually after
them. The crash happened after the reboot.
2. Inkscape behavior has been very erratic for a week now. Some things
