I've tested it, and it seems that Ubuntu 8.04 didn't detected the modem
when it was installed (it is a fresh install). Aren't Agere LT
Winmodems supported out of the box?
The modem appears listed when running "lspci" command, but the module is
not running.

Since this bug was reported a while ago, things have changed. Now I have
a broadband connection which uses the ethernet card, and works
perfectly. I don't have the old phone line anymore, so I can't test if

The modem is detected without problems, apparently works fine but, when
I do the call to my ISP (TelefonicaNet, Spain) the PPP program (KPPP
and Gnome PPP) stays 20 seconds aprox. connected and then it dies.
That's strange since my hardware controlled modem worked
