Hi there, i'm new in Ubuntu and have Dell E5410 which crashes as you
mentioned in your case. I started with Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-14-generic
which hangup during the normal boot up. I was forced to run in safemode
and went into shell command mode and update the kernel to 2.6.31-22 by
entering the fo

I didn't find mainline kernels for lucid, but I upgraded the laptop to
maverick instead (I had to do that anyway). With the default kernel
2.6.35-10-generic in maverick the laptop boots properly now.

I'm travelling this week and I don't have the dell laptop with me. I'll
test mainline kernels again next week when I'm back home.

Looks like the patches are upstream SHAID
1afe3e9d4335bf3bc5615e37243dc8fef65dac8f. I tried to apply them to
latest Luid, but it needs a back port of other drm pathes like BSD ring
buffer and vga_switchroo etc. So, this is not going to be an easy
backport to lucid. Can you please try if the mainlin
No I looked in 2.6-drm and mainline, looks like the patch did not make
it to any standard git tree, unless the patch is upstream we wont be
able to SRU them for Lucid.

Manoj, thanks for the link. Unfortunately the patch didn't apply to the
current linux-2.6 tree because one hunk failed, I guess it depends on
other patches. Is there a git tree available which contains the patch in
question? I would like to test the patch on my laptop.

Looks like Jesse's patch is not upstream yet, but there seems to be a
fix. https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/90684/ will SRU once it hits
upstream.
