You're right. In older versions of tex I had to encrease main_memory to
compile my phd thesis. Until now, I never ran into any difficulties.

but -- because of the problems -- also texlive-lang-all and all other
texlive-lang files. ngerman.sty can be found in ~./texmf/tex/latex/misc/
