Please refer to the upstream bug for further details. There is simply no
sane way to fix this in the VLC 1.0 branch, due to the strong Xlib
dependency. This problem can fixed either with a small change to
Firefox, or by updating to an XCB-based VLC, i.e. VLC 1.1.x or later.
