I'm now on the third day using a USB mouse without any problem. It seems
pretty clear that this bug only occurs when a PS/2 mouse connection is
being used.

If the problem is with OpenGL then it could occur within the boundaries
of the OS itself without using any gaming software. I am about to
attempt to reinstall the core, drivers, and OpenGL on my machine to see
if it makes any difference.

In my case I'm not using any gaming software, just the standard
Ubuntu/Gnome graphic interface. With this mouse freeze problem I daren't
do anything else other than browse the Internet and listen to streaming
radio on rhythmbox.

Additionally the only other coincidence is that it seems to happen when
using applications with OpenGL such as the game 'Glest' and the Python
OpenGL demos for Panda 3D.

If it makes any difference I am having the same problem with a usb
mouse. Ironically it seems to happen at exactly the same time the fan
kicks onto high speed on my desktop machine. I have used MS Windows XP
and Ubuntu 9.04 on this machine without this problem happening, so this
may be related to
This is happening so often that the computer is virtually unusable. Is
there any work-around to avoid the problem or anything that I can back-
out so it reverts to the previous version of the component ?

I thought I would also mention that I tried changing the definition of
visual effects in Preferences from 'Normal' to 'None' to see if it made
any difference. It didn't.
