FYI, it's fixed now for me. I had some problems between mpd and pulse
since the upgrade, maybe fixing that was what fixed it. I really don't
know at what point it was fixed, sorry :S

Hi,
Same problem, the gnome-volume-control applet does not show any devices
but sound is still produced through HDMI (Radeon HD4290) with
applications like Totem and VLC
I have tried the built in alsa modules (1.0.21) and my own complied
1.0.23 both show the same symptoms.

I think I did one major upgrade previous to this one without restarting
X, so maybe the offending package could be here too:
