Hi, this is a real PITA, see bug 301958 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=95896 this card (771/671) is not detected and there is no bloody driver for it on the kernel. I was a provider of 32 and 64-bit karmic and Jaunty drivers on my site because most of these good people can't compile

Why do you want to compile an old driver? Is the shipped driver not working? What graphics card do you use exactly? The upstream bug you linked does not deal with xserver-xorg-video-sis it describes a problem while compiling xserver-xorg-video-tga maybe you are mixing something up? -- Impossible
