I also have this bug, and unfortunately the pci=nomsi not fixed
completely. It helped a lot, and reduced the freezes. Now only 1-3
freezes/day instead of 3-4/hour, but it is still ridiculous.
Additionally I found a game (vdrift) what brings the lockup for five minutes
after you start it. I'm not

[SOLVED] (I hope... I've now transfered 15Gb of data without a lockup,
it usually locks after 250Mb)
I found a possible solution in http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-
netdev/2009/10/6/6256977/thread where Jay mentions to add pci=nomsi to
the boot parameters.
To implement this I edited /etc/
I have tried the latest source from Atheros, building the atl1e driver from the
"AR81Family-Linux-v1.0.1.9" sources from
http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx.
I still got a lockup 260Mb into a large file.
The Atheros notes suggest there can be a problem when you have 4Gb of memory -
I have 2G
I am having this problem with an eee 1201n, setting a large network
download going (e.g. ISO images) will reliably freeze the system, no
capslock or mouse movement possible.
lspci | grep thernet
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Atheros AR8132 / L1c

I can confirm I am suffering the same freezes.
Machine boots up, wireless use , freeze in minutes.
This occurs to me on a IBM ThinkPad T60 with this NIC:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5212
802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
these modules get to load:
lsmod | grep ath
ath5k
As I mentioned in the dupicate bug, same problem here on a t60 using:
Atheros Communications Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01). Before the
hard freeze, I experience small intermittent temporary freezes (of less
than half a second duration). If I disable the wireless when I start
seeing those small
Hi
I meet the same problem on a netbook asus eeepc 1201nl. When I download via
transmission (with a consequent debit(flow): 350 Kb/) at the end of moment the
computer congeals completely. I am obliged to stop(arrest) him(it) violently
with the button of supply
If someone can help me. . .
thanks

Hi pablomme,
If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-ups
