BTW, I think the intent of "permanently" was to indicate the contrast
between running off the live CD and having it on your hard disk. It may
well have missed the mark a bit though.

Hardcoding "Ubuntu" here is problematic too; the same desktop file is
used for other derivatives.
How about we just take the original text but simply remove the word
"permanently"? I think that would be fine - does anyone object to that
(with reasons)?

my thinking was that "system" is a little more general than "computer".
system could be applied to flash drives, tablets, etc; whereas computer
seems a little more restrictive. however, computer could be a fine term
as well if there is a consensus around that.

Assigning this to 'ubiquity' as that's were the tooltip must be set. I'm
accepting this as a papercut because the wording chosen for the
installer could indeed trick users into believing the installer will
burn Ubuntu to their hard disks, which is not the case.

It is important that users understand that the installation will do big
(and bad if they are not careful) things to their hard drive.
The current wording isn't bad, but you're right, maybe it can be
improved.
