Indeed, I can also confirm that it works with the security repos.
However, surely, this cannot not be considered a bug? Shouldn't it work
with the default repos?

I can confirm this fix... I was also unable to install until I enabled
the security repository for universe...

I just tried installing krb5-user again using synaptic and refreshed the
repository cache before doing anything else. It installed cleanly this
time.

I have the universe repository enabled and have tried to install
krb5-user today. I also got the following:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
krb5-user: Depends: libkrb53 (= 1.4.3-5) but 1.4.3-5ubuntu0.1 is to be
installed
Depends: libkadm55 (= 1.4.3-5) but 1.4.3-5ub
Please check if you have the security repository for universe enabled.
There is an updated package of krb5-user with the correct dependencies.
