All the icon functionality is gone.

I have found how to recover the old behaviour of Amarok's notification
icon (left click to restore/hide, right click to control the player, and
the middle wheel to adjust the volume), but it has a ¿great? drawback.
To get the old behaviour you have to remove from the panel the
"Indicator Appl
+1 for old restore/hide behaviour
It is annoying to have to navigate a rather clunky menu (several
'missing' icons, optional checkboxes, nothing aligned and it is too easy
to hit the Quit button instead, because it is bigger and both are near
the bottom)

The problem is that the Amarok-icon is not a normal systray
(notification-area) icon anymore, but integrated in the new menu-style
indicator-applet. Is there a way to configure this applet, so it ignores
amarok and you can get the old icon back?
There is a lot of missing functionality, and I think
I can confirm this problem when running Amarok on Ubuntu Lucid (not
Kubuntu).

No ideas, anyone? After all the various updates it is still the same.
Perhaps when the final 10.04 comes out I will do a clean install and try
from scratch and see what happens. :-) Thanks all!
