I'm also using gazpacho 0.6.6-2. Yes, my system has been pretty much
continuously upgraded from breezy->dapper->edgy. Also just checked to
make sure I don't have $PYTHON_PATH set that could be confusing it, but
I don't.

Actually, gazpacho starts fine here even though no
/usr/X11R6/lib/python2.4/site-packages directory exists.

With what version of the gazpacho package is this? Did you upgrade from
Dapper? I can't reproduce it on latest edgy, with 0.6.6-2
