Initial modprobe sky2 does nothing to mine :(
dmesg reports exactly zero when I run the modprobe, bizarrely.
BTW, I'm now on "2.6.35-29-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP" Ubuntu 10.10
rmmod'ing sky2 and modprobing again gives the following from dmesg:

At the time I was using lucid, modprobe was not fixing the problem
because the hardware was not recognized by the driver (pci id's not
listed). Once id's are listed, first modprobe causes a if to be created
by udev scripts. This i/f is used by subsequent reboots. I can no
longer test lucid on this
I hit the same bug in Lucid and using the latest upstream (2.6.38) also
fixed the problem.
Interestingly, manually running "modprobe sky2" also seemed to fix the
problem for me, permanently (after reboot, it just worked. No need to
even run modprobe).
