In fact, i think the problem is a sync freq problem. The working
xorg.conf use parse-edid result for Monitor section. And ubuntu
xorg.conf show a black screen, but i hear the login sound.

I own a iMac G5 rev C (PowerMac12,1) like you (but 20", 2,1GHz version).
I have the same problem. I reached to configured xorg like described in
