This affects my girlfriend's laptop too. It is just basic clean installation of
Ubuntu 10.04.
Sometimes there is no sound and Shutdown/Restart/Hibernate just logs her out.
Another thing already mentioned here is that it is not possible to mount
external usb drives.
New thing I realized could
I was able to solve the problem by changing my permissions in System ->
Administration -> Users and Groups.
After upgrading from Karmic, my user was set to custom permissions, with about
half of the boxes unchecked. I changed the permissions to the Administrator
preset and that seems to have tak

This happens to me as well. This is NOT "hit the wrong button" thing.
This is on and off, i would say happen approximately every 2-3 times
(ie/ every 2-3 successful restart/shut down). I also have the same 3

ok so the problem doesn't seem to have gone away, it just seems to be
intermintant but seems to be happening not only to the restart but
shutdown aswell, i have noticed a few factors that might might not be
relevant, on startup my usb mobile braodband device won't mount and the
sound hadware is no
