I installed 2.6.37-999-generic from ubuntu mainline kernels.
Symptoms are the same:
-Gnome power manager reports "battery charged" while discharging, and therefore
it takes no actions like dim the screen, or spin harddisk down etc..
-Brightness up function key doesn't work.
