Heres a ssh forwarding vnc viewer script that I use. It would need a GUI
tho.
GPLed.

Here is the the motivation: we had a machine broken into because of a
vulnerability in vncserver. This, plus the issue of unencrypted channel,
brought me to tighten up security by requiring that users will be
obliged to use SSH tunnels.
The problem is that as long as the server (either vnc, vino)

there's no point in vino setting up an ssh tunnel. Your vnc client
perhaps should set it up, but not vino (you wan't the tunnel from your
"client" to your "server" so vino can't do it.
The problem is, that vino
a) doesn't give the option to bind to localhost only
b) deals in unencrypted sessions
Shaya, will vino really automatically set up an ssh tunnel if it can
only bind to localhost? If so, that would be really nice, of course.
Otherwise binding to localhost only does not seem to make much sense to
me (well, maybe I understood the problem completely wrong).

here's a patch I cooked up quickly to add localhost support. a bit ugly
as libvncserver is really separate from the vino source

I don't disagree w/ the fact that there's a use case for listening on
INADDR_ANY, I'm saying that it is a security hole and a security hole
that's easily fixable w/ a single gui option that can determine if it
should bind to 127.0.0.1 or INADDR_ANY and a few lines of code to handle
that option.

I find it useful to use vino on freshly installed systems, and even on
Live CDs -- there is an accessibility use case for this because it is
easier to activate vino than set up the ssh server. ssh-server is not
installed on those (for good reason).
Perhaps we could add a warning that the connectio
Martin, any opinion on that? Note that vino is not activated by default
