SRU Verification for Lucid
The version 0.87.2-1ubuntu0.1 in -proposed doesn't fix the issue. This is
because the file sugar.desktop included in the package is the one in
data/sugar.desktop and not debian/sugar.desktop. It is installed by the rule
install-xsessionsDATA in data/Makefile.in.

I have the same problem as reported by Dylan McCall:
On a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04, I installed sugar from the Ubuntu
software center. After login out, Sugar appears as a selection in the
choice of desktop window manager. But when it is selected, there is a
very short login time (< 1 sec
GDM being a wimp and crashing in this case (instead of showing a proper
error message) is filed separately, in bug #542345
