Stable version 1.50 was just released a few days ago. I downloaded all the
dependencies and compiled it, and it works very well. You shouldn't need the
patch anymore.

I can confirm this bug as well. Zsnes is an important program for me so
I hope this gets fixed soon. In the meantime, I am a noob when it comes
to debdiff files, how do I apply the file that was posted?

The issue is fixed in the svn version of znses. Since the zsnes
developers do not seem to release versions quite often, I requested that
the packagemanager makes an SVN snapshot instead of packaging the 1.4.2
version again.
