Another "me too". CPU usage goes up into the 90%s after opening the
Applications menu for the first time (I'm not using the menu applet,

The menu does not flicker. Strace shows the process in a quick loop
running stat() on files and doing poll() calls with short timeouts.
I'll attach a bit of strace output just in case that helps.
