Geoff123, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

I believe I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook, GeForce
7150M / nForce 630M.
The image is stretched vertically and the lines are jumbled and confusing. The
bottom image is not displayed because it is off the screen.
Detected resolution is 1024x768, but should be 1280x800.
I have a similiar problem with a GeForce 8400GS and a Samsung SyncMaster
screen. The correct resolution is 1440x900x60, but it is detected as
1024x768x60, which is quite unacceptable. With the binary nVidia driver,
I can use a custom Modeline to force the correct mode. This has always
worked well,
I am actually having a similar problem, and judging from some forum
discussions there seem to be a lot more people with that problem.
Under Lucid with kernel 2.6.32-25-generic #43-Ubuntu I can successfully
change the desired mode on my monitor to 1152x864 75Hz by having a
modeline setting in my xo

Sorry, I didn't notice that Bryce has added the lucid tag. However, I'm
leaving this bug as new as it's affecting only one person.

Still not working for me. I tried quite a few different options with no
luck. I have exactly the same experience on Fedora 12. On both the
nvidia drivers work fine.

Here's the three files you requested.
I tried you suggested Modeline, but still have same issue.
Note that I'm running this off the livecd this time and there is a bunch of
junk in the dmesg related to the cdrom drive.

Additionally, the modeline you have in your xorg.conf seems to be
slightly different to the modelines I generate for 1920x1200.
The modeline I generate for 1920x1...@60hz is

Really we need the Xorg.0.log from when you're experiencing the bug -
namely, when you have that modeline defined in your xorg.conf.
I understand that you can't use the GUI while it's in that state, but it
would be very helpful if you could boot the computer to this broken
state, switch to a VT (u

Hi Geoff123,
Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this
issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.
