10.04 and up, Google Earth 6.0 is also supported:

The problem is the current line failing:
sh "$OPT_FILE" --tar -xvf -C "$tmpdir" >&2
A workaround might be to create a tmpdir outside the current directory,
e.g. in /tmp.
Apart from that, it looks like GoogleEarthLinux.bin needs to get fixed.
