Sorry Jerome, I should have replied last time but have been incredibly
busy.
Unfortunately, I ended up swapping my mobo out before it got fixed I
think. I now have an Asus board with intel CPU so cannot confirm the
current status.

I just installed the 17 July 2006 build of the kernel 2.6.15-26-386 -
this made no difference in this problem. Again, I had to revert to the
2.6.15-25-386 kernel.
