I now checked this issue against lucid. And there is an option in the
account configuration for proxy configuration. Available options are
Gnome Proxy, no proxy, socks4 and 5 and manual configuration. I guess
this adresses this issue? Or would you argue this ticket is only fixed
once the defaul
I can confirm this bug in karmic.
Pidgin will not connect to icq and jabber behind a proxy if the proxy is
enabled.
To use pidgin:
I need to go to network proxy -> disable proxy -> reconnect pidgin -> pidgin
works -> enable proxy in network proxy -> pidgin stays connected.

This is still a problem in 8.10. Setting a global proxy makes Pidgin
unable to connect to *anything*. Unsetting http_proxy and launching
pidgin fails, too --- is it getting the proxy information via gconf
instead?

I was referring to both the environment and the GNOME proxy settings;
I'm not sure which was being used in this case, as I have both set.

proxy.

This sure causes problem with Jabber. But the default setting in Gaim is
'No proxy', right?
