As Java developer, can't possibly recommend ubuntu (despite it being a
super java development platform) while this free software kool aid
hangover is on.
What possessed you?

Definitely a "me to". This broke all my Java apps after updating to
Lucid. And all of my co-workers too - we're a Java dev shop. The
workaround of using the partner repo worked, but it was a nuisance; why
jump through any hoops at all? Installing the real Sun JVM worked so
nicely before.
Also
sun-java is available through the "partner" repo.

Umm if this does get packaged again, why not rename it to oracle-
java6-*.
Personally I like openjdk, though ;)

Some people have been able to work around this by installing Icedtea.
Not my case, though. :-/

"Me too"
@Matthias ("as a java developer one would develop against a specification, not
a product"): I'd agree with you if we all took the blue pill (and lived in that
fantasy world where everyone behaves sensibly). Unfortunately, most of us had
to choose the red pill and live in the real world
As Java developer I was disappointed after today's update to lucid. [2]

be found in the partner archive starting with lucid.

Let me add a "Me Too." I understand the need to push people to the open
version, but there are too many apps that it just doesn't work for.
Until it is ready for prime time, there needs to be an easy fallback.

As I see Ubuntu starting to use openjdk. That's fine and I appreciate
this move, however sun-java6 is a must for my daily job.
Unfortunately openjdk and the icedtea6-plugin is simply useless in Lucid
for my SAN switches and HP Prloliant iLO ports.
I've installed the latest sun version of java man
IMO we must have one of two things:
1. Include sun-java6-plugin (which works - I can see applets with it)
2. Make open-jdk-work (better integration etc)

PLEASE could the Release Management team ensure this goes in before
Lucid goes to Gold release? I use my machine to remotely connect to
work (Citrix/VPN) as well as other Sun Java apps out there...
Currently on Hardy - but I plan to buy a new netbook with Lucid preinstalled...
then upgrade this
