Hi,
I never did kernel bissection in the past.
I am afraid it looks rather formidable task and I need to find time for
this.
I did not make exact note of when it started working and when it stopped
working but I really think that it was working for a year until I
switched to precise.

thing: the graphic animation of the key event works
but pad does not come back to life. Waking from sleep fix problem

I know that it was signed as "expired", however I have the 10.04 Lucid which is
supposed to have 3 years support.
I hope someone can offer a solution.

The issue of the toggle button at the top-right corner of the touch-pad
switching off but not again, is still solved by the following:
1) sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
2) change the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to the following
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.nomux
followed KernelMainline instructions. installed kernel 2.6.34.999
It does not boot, I got just a blinking cursor, never go to graphic login

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
