This resolved the problem; I hadn't thought to try it (I use backports-
wireless for the wifi in it), thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Can you please try installing
"linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic" (then reboot) & report your
results? A number of audio problems on laptops have been resolved by installing
this package. Also please e
how do I amend the bug title? I was confusing this computer with another
one; the part about the 1/8th jack working correctly isn't true.
