regarding this being fixed with an update. For future reference you can
manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in
the yellow line
It doesn't appear to break with ubuntu 13.04 with KDE as the desktop
environment and relatively current patches.
Close it.

Problem was reproduceable with 2.6.33-020633rc5-generic and
2.6.32-02063206-generic.
xorg-edge added to the mix lead to X not starting at all. Purged packages from
PPA and then reinstalled ubuntu-desktop and system revered to normal lock
behavior upon starting a GL app.
Problem goes away with
