Dalton: which version of Ubuntu are you using ? It should work now both
in Edgy and Dapper (kernel modules for Dapper have now been released).

I had same simple problem: there is not VMware modules for the recent
kernel in the Ubuntu repository yet, so we have to build it manually.
But the vmplayer doesn't start, because of another problems... other bug
report.

It seems you have an error on modules loading. Can you check you have
multiverse repository on security.ubuntu.com ? You should have a line like:
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security multiverse
If you have not, could you try to add this and then try again the
install ?
