In reply to what Anish commented above, I have used the export function
of the compiz settings manager and exported the broken settings and the
restored settings and made a diff. I don't know if this is of some use
to anybody, but just in case I will upload it here.

The bug exists in ubuntu-lucid-beta2-amd64 running on my Dell Inspiron
1420.
For anyone reading this, apart from the shell script fix, one can also
open "System->Preferences->CompizConfig Settings Manager" and select
"Preferences->Reset to Defaults" to fix this as well.

Hello All,
Today, Michael tried opening up the sugar emulator, straight from
"Applications-->Education", and this mouse bug happened yet again.
He has Lucid installed and is on what I believe to be the latest version of
sugar-0.88, 0.87.1-1, which he installed straight from the Sugarteam PPA.
At
I am marking this fix release as it has been fixed on ubuntu 10.04 and
we can now set gconf setting in USR-lucid. We do not yet have the
resources to maintain karmic.

Thanks for the bug report and patch! I will try to have it fixed on the
release that goes out Sunday January 24.
I have never worked with Gconf before. It looks like I will be spending
tomorrow morning on the gnome website researching gconf:)
