gvim not running from the terminal is not an issue here (it actually
works fine with me) but rather gvim not getting reflected in
Applications -> Accessories when you have been told so. The shortcut is
disabled and had to use Alacarte to turn it on and have it reflected in
the right place.

ubiquity is the live CD installer, not add/remove applications or any
other general-purpose repository for package installation problems. I
guess this belongs to either gnome-app-install or vim.
