get vnc desktop sharing installed, lucid has a suggests on vino which
seems about right

I had this same problem on Karmic UNR, and installing vino and vinagre
solved it for me. Maybe those come standard on Ubuntu desktop. Perhaps
those should be "recommended" or something by the empathy client.
