Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. vmware-player is not
included in a currently supported Ubuntu version, thus I am closing the
bug.

Confirm this bug, tested with vmware-player 1.0.1-4.
"libpng12.so.0" part can use the workaround - making a link to the one
in /usr/lib - as suggested on bug 47792. But, as reported, vmplayer
freezes at "Open Virtual Machine" UI while "GTK_IM_MODULE=scim" is set.
Just putting "export GTK_IM_MODUL
When I replace input method from scim to scim-bridge (export
GTK_IM_MODULE="scim-bridge") , then VMware Player can work without
changethe settings of LANG & LC_ALL
